"Taking part is stimulating"

“When I arrived in Barcelona, everything was new to me. I’d never left Madrid and in the beginning it was like an adventure and I didn’t know how it would end. Little by little I began to adapt and soon I started to go to Arrels to change clothes and shower once a week.

From the beginning they offered me various activities to help out with. I started making roses to give as gifts on Sant Jordi day. I’d never done any handicraft work before and I really enjoyed it. The best thing is seeing the finished product and knowing that it will be useful for something.

They also suggested that I could collaborate with the organisation’s maintenance team: I go with them and we put together flats for people who have lived on the street; we fix up any problems there might be.

Taking part and doing things is much better than spending the day without doing anything. I find it stimulating.”
